The Mabry PTA was able to award two scholarships this year, and are pleased to recognize the following Mabry Alumni students:

Alixandra Rubin will be receiving the $1000 scholarship. She is a student at the top of her class with a near perfect ACT score. She plans to attend Georgia Tech to major in Biomedical Engineering. Alixandra credits her Mabry teachers for pushing her and encouraging team work, and remarked specifically on Mrs. Grossman for learning how to approach problems holistically, which has made an impact on problem solving, not only in math and school, but in finding everyday solutions too. Alixandra is a National Merit Scholar, and it appears she received nearly every academic accolade possible, was a member of the Mayor's Youth Corps, Captain of the Cross Country and Track & Field Teams, and Volunteer Coordinator for You Go Girl - just to name a few. She was the clear, and very deserving, winner among the committee.

A $500 scholarship will also be awarded to Fabrizio Martins. He plans to attend the University of Central Florida to major in Computer Science. The committee was compelled by his thoughtful essay in which he reflected on how easy it was to transition into Mabry as a 2nd grader because of the friendly and encouraging environment. He then went on to focus on the music program at Mabry and how much it inspired his interest in music. Fabrizio has been a member of his school's orchestra and music programs since 6th grade, and is currently a Board member of Plant's selective Chamber orchestra. He is proficient in not only several instruments, but several languages as well. We know this candidate will be grateful for being awarded a scholarship as well.

And a huge thank you to the individuals that served on the committee: Lauren Gibson, Donna Trakas, Shirley Geldfeld, Sierra Iwanicki, Brett Johnson.

Congratulations Alixandra and Fabrizio!

The 5th Grade Committee has organized a Clap Out Caravan for Thursday, May 28th to honor and celebrate our 5th graders. The administration, 5th grade teachers including AGP teachers, Mrs Heinberg and Ms Rocha will be there to clap out and cheer for our 5th graders.
Each homeroom will participate in the caravan during the time slot listed below.
The caravan will take place at the drive at the back of the school (car line pick up). Please enter the caravan from Manhattan and turn right onto Neptune. Please see the attached map for the detailed route to ensure everyone is traveling safely and going in the same direction.
Parents and students are encouraged to decorate their cars for the caravan. During the caravan the students will receive a yard sign (that will be placed in the trunk) and a small gift. The teachers will also be placing any items that were left in the classroom in your trunk as well. If you still have your car tag, please place it on your car so the teachers can quickly place your child’s belongings in the trunk of your car. If not, then please write your child’s name on a sheet of paper and place it on your passenger side dashboard.

We know this isn’t what we had originally envisioned our 5th graders last few days at Mabry to look like but we are hoping this still helps them to feel celebrated, honored and special. We look forward to seeing all of you on May 28th

Cereal for Summer

May 22, 2020

Did you know that 1 in 4 children in our area do not know where their next meal will come from?
This issue is especially critical right now, as schools have been closed for several months and will continue to be throughout the summer. Mabry PTA is joining forces with Feeding Tampa Bay to help put an end to child hunger, one box of cereal at a time! Consider making a donation between now and May 31st to help children in need.

We will be collecting all library books for return to the media center during class pick-up times this week and next.  Please have any library books ready to return in your trunk so that teachers can collect them safely when they return your items.

This week we will begin the process of returning student items to families from the classrooms.

See the below schedule for class dates and times.  Please pull through back car line at your student's scheduled class time.

Fifth grade students will get all of their belongings on May 28th during the fifth grade drive-out.  The times will be communicated by the fifth grade committee.

If for some reason you are unavailable to pick up, we will have other times on June 1st.
This Tuesday, May 5th at 8:30am, we will be holding a special general membership meeting to vote in next year's slate of officers via zoom. The Florida PTA requires all general membership meetings to be in person, however due to current circumstances they are allowing chapters to hold virtual meetings to vote in officers and all other duties will hopefully proceed in the fall. As a reminder only current PTA members can vote.

Here is the proposed  slate of officers:

2nd VP Membership & Community - Kristin Schmidt
3rd VP Fundraising - Yanira Teitelbaum
